Students Urged to Apply for Summer Internship at Essex CountyCommunity Justice Unit

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office takes a proactive approach to crime prevention.  In doing so, we have created the Community Justice Unit.  This Unit is dedicated to creating and putting forth programs aimed at providing children and adolescents with positive alternatives and strategies to prevent delinquency.

The Community Justice Unit holds a five week summer internship program to introduce high school juniors to careers in law, law enforcement and government.  Applications are being accepted for this exciting and unique program. The internship includes a one week residential component at New Jersey State Trooper Academy, where they receive first hand knowledge of the troopers’ military style training.   Interns visit various law enforcement agencies, including the Essex County Sheriffs Department and Drug Enforcement Agency.  Interns participate in college tours, cultural events, workshops and a mock trial.  Interns receive a stipend after successfully completing the internship program.

Applications can be found at www.njecpo.org  under Community Outreach.  The application should be completed, signed and returned by March 9, 2012 via mail to Ms. Nicole Graves-Watson, Community Justice Coordinator, Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, 50 West Market Street 3rd Floor, Newark, New Jersey 07102.  For more information contact (973) 621-5377.
