By Roman J. Uschak, Staff WriterAnother long-time Nutley municipal employee has called it a career.
“It’s different,” laughed JoAnn Dunleavy earlier this week. “There’s lots of downtime.”
Dunleavy retired from the Department of Public Affairs as the township’s full-time registrar on Aug. 31 after serving Nutley for 31 years. She was honored with a resolution at the Board of Commissioners meeting on Sept. 7.
“She was a very hard worker, and she knew her job very well,” said Nutley Mayor Joanne Cocchiola, who oversees the town’s Public Affairs and Health departments. “We’re all going to miss her, and were proud to have her as our registrar.”
Dunleavy began her career with the township in March 1979 in the Health Department of Nursing Services, according to the resolution. Eight years later, in July 1987, she was appointed Registrar of Vital Statistics, where she reported to the late Harry Chenoweth, who was mayor of Nutley and director of Public Affairs at the time.
