Nutley High School will hold its annual Homecoming Day celebration on Saturday, Sept. 24 with a number of events that will begin as early as the Monday Sept. 19.
“Maroon and Gray Spirit Week” will kick off a week of events, interclass contests and various athletic competitions on Monday Sept. 19, and will end Friday Sept. 23 with an all-sports Bonfire and Pep Rally at Flora Louden Field on Hancox Avenue at 7 p.m.
The fourth annual Homecoming Parade is set to roll down Franklin Avenue between New Street and Chestnut Street at 11 a.m. and The Third Half Club, NHS Student Council and NHS Athletic Department will sponsor a Tailgate and Barbecue Celebration for all fans and friends who attend the parade and football game.
There will be plenty of fun for children and adults of all ages. In addition to food, there will be music and games for the kids. After the game, all fans and friends are encouraged to join the team and the student body in the senior courtyard for a postgame reception.
This year’s Homecoming will feature alumni from the Class of 1961, 1981, and the 1960 state championship football team. The honorary Grand Marshall of the fourth annual Homecoming Day Parade will be new Superintendent of Schools Russ Lazovick. The NHS varsity football Raiders are set to kick off against the Roughriders of Newark West Side at 1 p.m.
“This is a great opportunity for the community to support all of our programs, have a great day with family and friends and see a great game,” NHS athletic director Joe Piro said.
