NHS hockey team advances to State quarterfinals

Joey Fierro scored the first two goals of the game and the 18th-seeded Nutley High School boys’varsity ice hockey team stunned second-seeded Kinnelon, 3-2, in the second round of the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association Public B tournament on March 4.
The Raiders (15-5-7) will face 10th-seeded Hopewell Valley in the quarterfinals on March 7 at Codey Arena in West Orange at 4 p.m.
Andrew Zinicola broke a 2-2 tie as the Raiders scored three unanswered goals in the third period to beat 15th-seeded Sparta, 5-2, in the second round on March 2 at Skylands Arena.
Dan Koslecki and Tyler Morgan scored the final two goals of the game to seal it.
Fierro and Brandon Perdon put the Raiders up 2-0 in the first period.
