NHS football team mounts big rally to beat Bloomfield in opener

The Nutley High School varsity football team opened the season with a thrilling come-from-behind 30-20 win over Bloomfield under the lights at Tangorra Field on Sept. 10.

The Raiders erased a 20-0 deficit at the end of the first quarter.

Trailing 20-17 entering the fourth quarter, Matt DelMauro scored on a go-ahead 1-yard run. Lou Meggiolaro then capped the comeback with a 69-yard touchdown run.

The Raiders scored 17 points in the second quarter. Meggiolaro had an 8-yard scoring run to cut it to 20-14, followed by Phil Condito's 17-yard field goal.

NHS quarterback Nick Tedesco completed six of 13 passes for 64 yards.
