The Nutley High School boys’ varsity basketball team received the No. 26 seed in the 33-team field of the Essex County Tournament.
The Raiders will visit No. 19 seed West Orange in the preliminary round this Saturday Jan. 28. The winner will face the winner between No. 14 seed Orange and No. 31 seed West Side.
Nick Gariano had 11 points, including three three-pointers, but the Raiders lost to Belleville, 49-35, on Jan. 17 at NHS. Jonathan Russo also had eight points for the Raiders.
NHs dropped a tough 47-46 decision to West Essex on Jan. 19 in North Caldwell.
Russo had 10 points and Gariano, Joe Feraco and Christian Schroeder each had eight points for the Raiders, who held a 29-19 halftime lead. West Essex outscored Nutley, 17-10, in the third quarter and 11-7 in the fourth quarter.
Scott Gonzalez had five points, Charlie Bingham had three points and Ryan Fischer added two points for NHS, which fell to 6-8.
Seton Hall Prep is the No. 1 seed in the ECT. Newark Tech is seeded second and Bloomfield is the third seed.
