Julio ‘Chief’ Luzzi
Julio “Chief” Luzzi, 97, a lifelong resident of Nutley, died Aug.
23 at Job Haines Home, Bloomfield Mr. Luzzi was a machinist for
Eastwood Neally Co., Belleville, for 25 years, retiring in 1975. An
All-State football, baseball and basketball player, he was a member
of Nutley High School Hall of Fame and the Third Hall Club of
Nutley. Mr. Luzzi is survived by his wife of 69 years, Mary Nancy
nee LePree; daughters, Peggy Hatter and Linda Petronaci; son,
Michael Luzzi; sisters, Terry Leopizzi and Elsie Santonacita; nine
grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Frank V. Hermo
Frank V. Hermo, 76, a resident of Fairway Mews in Spring Lake,
formerly of Nutley, died Aug. 25, at Jersey Shore Medical Center,
Neptune. Mr. Hermo was born in Jersey City and raised in Union
City. He was a graduate of St. Peter’s College, Jersey City and
served in the Army. He resided in Nutley for most of his life,
where he served on the Nutley Board of Education for 15 years.
Before his retirement, Mr. Hermo was employed by Equifax and the
Passaic Valley Water Authority. Mr. Hermo was predeceased by his
wife of 45 years, Mary Anna Scott. He is survived by his sons,
Scott F. and Andrew J.; daughter, Elizabeth A. Sposato; brother,
Joseph; sister, Mildred Fischer; eight grandchildren and companion,
Mary Kotsopulos.
Sidney V. Haas III
Sidney Valentine Haas III, 65, of Nutley died Aug. 25 in University
of Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia, Pa. Born in Newark, Mr.
Haas resided in West Orange, for many years before moving to Nutley
11 years ago. He was a self-employed businessman before retiring
three years ago. Mr. Haas is survived by his wife, Genoveva, nee
Puente; daughter, Valerie V.; niece, Shawnmarie Haas and
great-nephew, Zachary G. Markowski.
James A. Nevins
James A. Nevins, 87, of Bloomfield, formerly of Nutley, died Aug.
25 at Morristown Memorial Hospital. Mr. Nevins worked at
Hoffmann-La Roche in Nutley as a landscape gardener. Prior to that,
he worked at Curtiss-Wright Aeronautics in Fairfield. He was a
member of the Hoffmann-La Roche Retirees Club and the Bloomfield
Senior Citizens Tuesday Club. Mr. Nevins was predeceased by his
wife, Regina T., nee Wayda. He is survived by his son, James Jr.;
daughter, Theresa A.; five grandchildren and one
great-granddaughter.
